Nim for Chrome

The subtitles don't appear on a video

Click the Nim icon in Chrome's toolbar and check that Show Nim subtitles on this site is ticked, and that the language you are learning is the language the video is in.

Nim uses the site's own subtitle track when there is one in your language. When there isn't, it reads the subtitles burned into the picture, which takes a moment at the start. Some streaming services protect their video so that no extension can see the picture; there, Nim can only use the service's own subtitles, so turn them on in the player's subtitle menu.

The characters look wrong or jump up and down

The study language is probably set to a different language from the video's, for example Japanese on a Chinese video. Set it to the video's language in the Nim popup.

The hover card gets in the way

In the Nim popup, under Hover to translate, choose to hover only while holding Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows), or switch it off. To stop it on one site only, choose Pause on this site at the bottom of the card.

"Today's AI limit is used up"

Translations, explanations and reading burned-in subtitles use AI models, so the free plan includes a daily allowance, and it resets every day. The dictionary in the hover card works without limit. Nim Pro raises the allowance.

Accounts and syncing

Do I need an account?

No. You need one only to send saved words from Chrome to the app on your iPhone, or to use one Nim Pro subscription on several devices.

My words or Pro don't show up on my other device

Both devices must be signed in to the same account, and accounts are matched by email address. You can sign in with an emailed code or with Google everywhere, and with Apple on iPhone. If you chose Hide My Email when signing in with Apple, that account has a different address from your usual one and is a separate account. Write to us and we will help you combine them.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in on the account page and choose Delete my account. Everything held for the account is deleted. The cards on your iPhone stay on your iPhone.

Nim Pro and billing

Does one subscription cover the app and the extension?

Yes. Nim Pro belongs to your account, so it works in the iPhone app, in Chrome and on this website wherever you are signed in to that account.

How do I cancel?
  • Bought in the App Store: on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Nim.
  • Bought on this website: sign in on the account page and cancel there.

You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. The terms cover refunds and the EU right of withdrawal.
